Meet Gavin Soward, a passionate racer, proud family man, and one-half of a competitive father-and-daughter karting duo making memories both on and off the track. Competing in the TAG Restricted Medium and Masters classes, Gavin races with kart number 28, a number he jokes represents the age he still thinks he is.
Having spent the past five years in karting, Gavin has developed a genuine passion for the sport and everything that comes with it: the competition, the camaraderie, and the thrill of race day. Whether he’s chasing lap times or enjoying the atmosphere in the pits, karting has become an important part of his lifestyle and family life.
Away from the circuit, Gavin enjoys an active lifestyle filled with adventure and adrenaline. From kitesurfing to mountain biking, he’s always looking for the next challenge, which perhaps explains why karting suited him perfectly from the beginning. His favourite soundtrack for race weekends? “I Want To Go Faster” by War Hall is a fitting anthem for someone who’s always chasing speed.
At the centre of Gavin’s karting journey is his family, especially his wife Donna and daughter August. While he jokes that his biggest challenge is keeping up with August, who believes she’s faster than him and is “probably right”, the friendly rivalry between father and daughter has become one of the most enjoyable parts of their motorsport journey together.
Despite admitting August may have the edge on the racetrack, Gavin is quick to point out that he still claims victory overall thanks to his superior kitesurfing and mountain biking skills. It’s this sense of humour, family connection, and passion for motorsport that makes Gavin such a valued part of the karting community.
Together, Gavin and August represent the strong family spirit that makes grassroots motorsport so special, sharing the highs, challenges, laughs, and unforgettable memories that come with life at the track.
